IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Today people are developing the habit of looking at their cell phone
every five minutes even while in office or while in a meeting. It is very
distracting not only to those doing it but others also. Being part of Social
media may add to your happiness but should not be on the cost of other more
important matters.
Social
media and the internet as a whole have given people more access to information
than ever before. Anyone with a mobile device can now search for virtually any
information they need at any time.
The
answer would be whether social media is good or bad, but it makes it so much
more than just a means of communication. If you post on your social profile
under the platform's terms of use, there are no gatekeepers, you can post
anything and everyone has the chance to see it. It really democratizes the
media and gives everyone a medium to be heard, and we have to bring that in.
You can learn almost anything you want on the Internet, which changes the way
you learn. News content is now much more available thanks to social media, and
I personally like the immediacy of Twitter messages. Almost every day I find
out what's happening on Twitter without having to wait for news to arrive.
Social
content can provide both real and false information, and there will inevitably
always be people who try to capitalize on the fact that the media are spread
and are social media. There will be people who believe everything they read and
will not continue to search to find out if it is an internet hoax. People can
find real news or fake news that is presented as real, but social content
isn't.
Social
media can also facilitate cyberbullying, which can take dissent to a new level,
leaving the victim with little chance of escape. This is true, scary, and
regrettable, but it is an unfortunate side effect of our wider connectivity.
Some platforms are now trying to monitor this and we will probably always play
a role in that. We have opened the system up to those who would use it to
pursue their own goals, whether for personal gain or for the benefit of others.
“Social media is like a drug, but what makes it particularly
addictive is that it is adaptive. It adjusts based on your preferences and
behavior's which makes it both more useful and engaging and interesting, and
more addictive.”
I
think it's not about dealing with negative comments, but dealing with
negativity in general. So try to find where they're coming from.
People who hate others or hurt
others have own set of issues that they are dealing with, which they feel like
act accordingly. Probably they couldn't achieve what they wanted. So it creates
more negativity when they see others grow. Because constructive criticism comes
from a good place. But if it's just to hurt you and bring you down, that hatred
is coming from a place of insecurity. I think you should either respond with
love and empathy, or just ignore or avoid it and we should move on.
The
best way to deal with unfriendly comments online is to ignore them. Twitter,
Facebook, & most other social media platforms have tools that allow you to
unfollow people or to filter what you comment. It is your personal responsibility
to set up and use those filters.
Unfortunately,
too often people do not set up those online filters (boundaries). You have the
power to decide how much influence people, whether online or in-person, have
over you. Set up filters (boundaries) of what type of people you will allow to
influence you.
Finally,
you may be tempted to get into political, religious, or other types of
conversations. Know that a lot of people online are not there to create
relationships, rather they’re there to vent.
It
is important to maintain an awareness of yourself and to ask yourself if making
a comment or posting something might incite a negative reaction. Be so focused
on the type of person that you want to be that you don’t have time to get into
those conversations that might add negativity to your life.
Social media is a place where every person chooses his/her
best moments and posts them online so that their friends can see it, envy it,
or feel jealous. And seeing such posts will/might often make you think about
these: Am I really enjoying my life? How can anyone have such an awesome life?
Will I ever be as happy as them? He/she is looking to great, why am I not so
good looking? And all other such nonsense.
Social media is a
great platform for all of us to connect, converse, and collaborate. On Social
media, many try to tell they are perfect, popular, rich, intelligent, and
successful. Social media is like a pill that you take and makes you believe you
are ok and the world is very wonderful towards you.
Excessive fake
happiness on social media can have negative impacts, especially on the youth.
They might fall into a comparison trap or depression. We strongly suggest you
go for a walk, meet people at a restaurant, have fun and there is nothing
better than having the person in front of you to connect, converse and
collaborate.

Great work
